The Heishipu(Blackstone Town) Union Meat Factory was once the largest state-owned meat supplier in Hunan, China. Established in the 1950s, it underwent privatization in 2004. However, in 2016, the government decided to demolish the area and transform it for commercial use. Approaching the project from the perspective of workers' families, eight books were crafted, each centered around a character who lived or worked in a particular building within the factory. These books include two photography albums and five personal accounts, presented in archival, narrative, or album formats. The covers are made from wall plaster and spray paint, lending a distinct texture.
Amidst the dynamic shifts in China's economic landscape, cities transition from growth-driven to inventory space. In this swiftly evolving urban architecture, people explore their individual and collective familial memories.
IDEA:
Scaled-down BooksI researched all the architectures where my family and I once lived and worked, using satellite views. Each building has its own protagonist and unique story,
and Each book is also a scaled-down model of the building.
Therefore, I decided to design two photo albums and six narrative literatures.
